My family moved from Iowa to Ohio when I was about a year old. When I was six, I went to my first game here. From 1990-1993, I got out to nine Indians games and one Browns game with my dad. The Browns won that one, but I saw the Indians win a whole one time out of nine. And that was my first game in 1990, a 13-4 drubbing of the Tigers. My favorite player, Cory Snyder, took a Frank Tanana fastball to the knee that put him out a few games. This was a clear harbinger of things to come.
Despite a lot of bad teams and a lot of losing, I got to see some big moments. I was there for Dave Stieb's no-hitter and Nolan Ryan's last career win.
Twice in 1993, I was among a crowd of 50,000+, rare today. I watched a game from behind a support pole while the guy sitting next to us gave my mom a nice case of pneumonia from his uncontrolled coughing.
It was dark, it was disgustingly moist, and it smelled of stale cigarette smoke. I remember the ramps up to the upper deck, the catwalks to the loges. It sometimes felt like the entire place might cave in if you glanced at a support pole too hard.
Cleveland Stadium was a dump. But it was our dump and I wish I had gotten to go to it more often.

While there were a lot of happy memories at the old Ballpark, and on the exterior the new park doesn't hold a candle to it, on the inside this is actually quite a pleasant place to watch baseball. Seats are an upgrade from the old park (wider and more comfortable), but most seats lack cushions. Most sections are shallow with relatively few stairs. Concourses are wide and well-lit. Concession prices are absurd, but no more absurd than the rest of the league.
There are some blind spots, from many outfield seats in all decks it can be hard to see the warning track even when standing. I don't remember this being an issue in the old park.
One correction above: there *are* budget-priced "bleacher" seats (actually individual bucket seats). They are $9 plus fees, available day-of-game only, in sections 325 and 326 in right field. Otherwise, cheapest are usually $14 for weekdays and $23 for weekends.
