PETCO is an awesome park. It has all the cool bells and whistles that most new parks have but it also has a lot of cool San Diego touches. The Western Metal Building, the beach in right-center, the park at the park, the open concourses; they are all great. I love the fact that park is designed for you to get up and take a walk. I am a big baseball fan but I can rarely sit through an entire game. This place is a perfect place to take a "lap". You can see the field from every area in the park. There is a different type of beer available at every snack bar and they even have a concession that has about 200 different brews. There is tons of different food available and you can't beat the San Diego scenery. Even the fans in San Diego are great. Unlike the fans in Arizona (my favorite team by the way), they are totally into the game. I have seen them play the Giants a couple of times (the night Bonds tied it was one of them) and the bleacher bums harassed the opposing outfielders the entire game. It was great! This is a great ballpark in one of the country's nicest cities.

I've gone to PetCo park twice, once in 2004 and earlier this year, both times I had a lot of fun, even though this year everyone knows how the Padres did this year.
Onto the ballpark, the field itself looks really nice, i love the beach in right center, the cool way they display the retired numbers, the Western Metal Supply building, even though my favorite part of the night, (I went the game againt the D-Backs when Greg Maddux broke his winless streak) was when Trevor Hoffman came out to close the game, and everyone joined in in singing Hell's Bells. Overall this is a great ballpark, great service, great employees, great atmosphere.

It had the potential to be one baseball's best parks, but unfortunately Petco Park fall short in a number of areas. First the positive. It's in a great area with a great view, and is easily accessible by train. The hill behind center field is also a wonderful idea. Now the bad. First off, the exterior brown stone is not aesthetically pleasing to say the least, as it makes the exterior of the stadium look more like a prison than a ballpark. Inside two giant stone beams that hold up lights cutting off the upper deck from behind home plate from the seats along the foul lines. This gives much of the interior of the stadium a crammed claustrophobic feeling, and I would suspect obscures the views from some seats. Now I know I will likely infuriate some San Diegans here, but the left field Western Metal Supply Company building feels very out of place. I understand its historical importance to the city, but why the designers wanted to incorporate a building to be used a foul poll seems bizarre. It takes quirky throwback to a whole new, and unnecessary, level.

I just saw this park on Fox TV last night for this year's All Star Game. While impressive, how did they get away with center field being less than 400 ft. (after the modifications of 2005, 2012 and 2015, that is)? Oh, the boos for other California baseball teams players (especially National Leaguers)! Overall, a really nice park that plays large, yet seems on the small side by now, and it could use a capacity increase, not the decrease that they have done recently! I know what they did, they made more open standing room by taking quite a few chairs out. That, and they need to bring their organ back (of which I have heard that they have one, yet didn't hear it being played during the game)!
