Attended only one event, but passed by many times on I-494 to MSP Int'l Airport or to Wisconsin.
My favorite story is about the wild Pablo Cruise-Steve Miller Band-Eagles concert in the summer of '78. Heard about the wild time from many radio DJ friends and fellow college classmates in attendance, but one story stood out about the field itself. Apparently the festive seating for this concert included the baseball infield (stage was in front of the scoreboard), although that is not the case these days at MLB parks. Those who sat on the mound did enough damage during that day that it needed to be completely resculpted. If memory serves, this first came to light nationally on one of the NBC Saturday Games of the Week. The Twins pitchers said it took awhile to adjusted to the new slope. A college classmate of mine who comfirmed this story was a Twins batboy those final years at the Met.

THE LONGEST HOME RUN I EVER SAW WAS ON A "GAME OF THE WEEK"
IN 1969 OR 1970 WHEN REGGIE JACKSON HIT THE TOP OF THE SCOREBOARD IN THE BACK OF THE BLEACHERS WITH A "RISING"
LINE DRIVE THAT BOUNCED ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE INFIELD!!!
I NEVER SEE THIS HOME RUN MENTIONED ANYWHERE!!! IT WAS
TRULY MONUMENTAL AND I REMEBER THINKING "WOW" THATS WHAT
MICKEY MANTLE MUST HAVE BEEN LIKE!!! I DONT REMEMBER THE
EXACT DISTANCE , BUT THE COMMENTORS WERE IN AGREEMENT THAT IT WOULD HAVE TRAVELED WELL OVER 500' AND PROBABLY CLOSE
TO 600! (AND I SAW MANY OF HARMON KILLEBREWS HOMERUNS
BUT NONE LIKE THIS ONE!!!) I CAN STILLE REMEBR THIS HOME RUN ABOVE ALL OTHERS (STEROIDS OR NOT!) ALMOST 40 YEARS

It was the 1st MLB stadium I ever visited, but it remains my fave. Looking down on the field from the main concourse was amazing, it was hard not to drool. The field was quite a bit below the concourse/ground level, probably dug into the ground like Dodger stadium. The Met reminds me a bit of Dodger Stadium with the 3 deck modern configuration. The 3rd deck was closed off in all the games I saw. I saw Fidrych day at the Met - they released a bunch of doves before the game. Strong smell of cigs and cigars throughout the stadium. I went to 16-20 games at the stadium over 4 seasons, but I have 12 Carew autographs! Oliva was also friendly with the kids. I got Killer's autograph, Blyleven and others, but most of those were on autograph day (under the left field grandstand). The Twins did a pre-game warm up using the *backs* of their gloves to try and keep a baseball in the air (hacky sack with a baseball). The bullpens were under the CF/RF scoreboard. The 3B bleachers swayyed when the crowds sitting there would stomp their feet. Fave vendor: "Ice cold Hamms bahhhhhhhhttle beer". Caged grandstand ramps with 1960's colors, bright orange and blues.

Grew up about 15 miles away dad would take us to games a couple of times a year. Those were great times and we saw some great baseball players (Killebrew, Carew, Olivia) and some not so great (remember Bombo Rivera?) Also went with school groups and church groups to "knothole days" Grew up and moved to 'sconsin. Saw twins play at county stadium a number of times and it reminded me of the old Met but the Met had more of an open feel to it. I have since been to Miller park and White Sox corporate park. They are both beautiful but they lack the authenticity of the Met. Too many distractions at the new parks. Also a huge Vikings fan. They were never the same when they moved inside. Also been to the dome. Mom always said if don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all. 'nough said.
